PoP: Sands of Time

By SirPaladin

I played Prince of Persia (2D) when I was a baby, and I loved it. It was the best game back then. I loved how that cute-little prince jumped over the spiked traps, fell and broke his limbs. I don`t want to be nostalgic, so I`ll spare you the details.

I heard that a new-generation PoP was available. How joyous I was! I could finally play that cute little game, in next-generation style.
I played it, with those cute little graphics, I liked it, I felt nostalgic…
…but of course! I`ll spare you the details again. It felt so simple, so…
I`m sorry…I can`t stop myself. It seems I won`t be able to skip the details.
I got stuck at a puzzle. “Hmpf,” I said, “these kinds of puzzles weren`t to be seen in the original.”
I started the game all over about ten times, when I finally passed the step. I was fighting fearsome sand minions with my Dagger of Time when I suddenly fell to the ground. “NO!” I yelled “Game over!? Press R to turn back time…”
I pressed “R” and I turned back time. Interesting. This couldn`t be done in the old PoP.
These were the first things that kept me playing. Too bad I beat the game so easily. All those cute little scenes were just… cute little scenes, nothing more. The fight scenes weren`t bad either. A long and varied combo was the most important part the Prince`s battles against the sand minions.
The end of the game was really dramatic. The Prince fell in love, and turned back time to save his cute-little lover. Such a cute-little story.

Summary:
Times said “cute little”: 8
Personal opinion about the game: cute-little experience
General rating: 8,50

PoP: Warrior Within

by SirPaladin

After having played SoT, I knew what to expect from WW. After all I had read about it before, I knew that the enemies will have a hard time with me.
It looked like our Prince had aged a bit, he had become a bit too harsh (his nasty enemies lost their precious heads before they could use them) and he had changed his musical taste (the game`s musical theme is now hard rock, unlike PoP:SoT).
The game begins on the Prince`s ship, currently being attacked by some pirate-wannabes hired by the so-called “Empress of Time”. Well, they`re not hired, mainly because they`re mindless zombies.
You arrive on the Island of Time to destroy the Sands of Time before their creation. Twisted and dramatic story, I should say.
The game`s most innovative feature is the Free Form Fighting System (FFFS). You can choose the way you grab the enemy, then you can choose the way you slice him. Poor lads. They shouldn`t have joined the Empress in the first place.
The Island of Time is breathtaking. It has a great number of superb environments… The Prince`s acrobatics aren`t bad either. Running up walls, jumping on enemies, slicing his foes while jumping from rope to rope… There are a number of reasons to play the game over and over, again and again…
You can fight with two weapons, secondary arms being very interes-ting: you can throw daggers, execute special moves with both swords, rolling on the floor slicing poor undead lads… They all add up to the dark and sinister atmosphere.

A special ending is available for players who don`t give up easily. I won`t spoil it, I only say this: You won`t play the special ending on the first run. The best thing about PoP:WW is that it holds hours of pure fun and challenges. My rating is 8,8
